The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Holiness. He is also the Spirit of Life.
God is life – he has life within himself (John 5:26). God is the source of life. God gave life to all creation.
Further, the Holy Spirit gives and imparts spiritual life (John 6:63; 2 Corinthians 3:6). “The Spirit gives birth to spirit” (John 3:6).
When we are born physically, we possess biological life. When we trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, we possess spiritual life. The Holy Spirit regenerates us, instantly and supernaturally creating a new spiritual nature within us. We are born again, born from above.
Plus, the “law of the Spirit” that gives life breaks us free from the “law of sin” that leads to death (Romans 8:2). A higher law transcends and outdoes the lower law.
When you stand beside a 747 jet on the runway, its massive weight and size makes it seem incapable of breaking the grip of gravity.
But when the power of its engines combines with the laws of aerodynamics, the plane is able to lift itself to 35,000 feet and travel at 600 miles per hour. Gravity is still pulling on the plane, but as long as it obeys the laws of aerodynamics, it can break free from the bonds of earth.
Likewise, the enslaving power of sin loses its grip on you, because “the Spirit who gives life has set you free” to rise above sin (Romans 8:2). A change in the balance of power has taken place within you.
The Holy Spirit gives you the desire and ability to please God. He enables you fulfill God’s purposes for your life. He empowers you to live the right way God intends (Romans 8:4). Since all life grows, these all grow in your own experience.
Through the Holy Spirit, you sense a depth of life, a richness, a fulness of life that you had not known before you came to Christ. Of course, you still face pressures and problems, and you will eventually die. But you live an abundant life now and you will live forever.
You daily yield to and take from the life-giving Holy Spirit. He breathes into you life. Fills you with life. Renews you with life.
The Holy Spirit wells up within you the richness and fullness of life itself. He is the Spirit of Life.
